A stubborn lady whom I adore, while boring her about my concern about the future, told me to go to the kitchen, turn on the water and let it run after plugging the sink. The water would have invaded the room causing conspicuous damage.
But a nothing would have been enough, to remove the cap, and the damage would have disappeared.
So I asked what the cork represented.
She slyly replied that this often happens to careers and to the history of intelligence. The cork is sometimes the reluctance in the face of the change of environment, the fear of the New and the Different, which attracts but is fearful. She said that intelligence and personal qualities are not enough to succeed, but you need the right character for the context, which must be the right one.
Well I wish you to remove that plug and avoid flooding the kitchen. It’s not easy to make a change to achieve what we want, but sometimes the complacency in feeling sorry for yourself when things don’t go according to our expectations outweighs the drive to act, compromising our personal success.
